Bungling ramraid brothers caught after taking off masks to chat... then one got his MANHOOD caught on razor wire By Daily Mail Reporter Updated: 11:19 EST, 1 July 2010 e-mail View comments Two bungling brothers have been sent to jail after CCTV recorded them taking their masks off during a burglary. Dale and Karl Thorne succeeded in ramming the door of a service station early one morning last July - but their incompetence soon took over. First they revealed their faces and stood chatting as they stole £10,000 of cigarettes in front of the shop's CCTV cameras. Dopey: Dale (below left) and Karl (below right) Thorne can be seen in this still from the service station's CCTV footage (above) while stealing £10,000 of cigarettes With the burglar alarm sounding they then managed to cut themselves on razorwire - one snagging his privates - as they left the scene.  They can't even blame their incompetence on youth - elder brother Karl is 35,and  Dale just a year younger. Defence barrister Terry Holder, who represented Karl, said: 'Not many professional burglars reveal their faces or cut themselves to pieces. 'Karl Thorne had injuries to several parts of his body - some more personal than others.' Prosecutor Joss Ticehurst said a VW Passat car was stolen from a garage and used to smash through the front door of the A377 Fishleigh Rock service station in Umberleigh, North Devon. Station owner Gerald Colwill heard the burglar alarm go off and found the place trashed. The raid left him with a £9,000 repair bill and up to £10,000 worth of tobacco stolen - but police found the culprits were caught on camera. Karl had also left blood from his wrist cut on the wire in the abandoned getaway car. Dale (34) had a key to a holdall which had been used to store the stolen tobacco at a pal's house. Judge Graham Cottle, at Exeter Crown Court, jailed Karl for two years and Dale for 30 months, saying: 'This was a serious commercial burglary. It was quite clearly planned, A vehicle was acquired to use as a battering ram.' Det Con Heather Smith said: 'It was a significant crime in the local area. The CCTV footage and DNA evidence from the blood at the scene were the clinchers.' The brothers are from Barnstaple, North Devon. Advertisement
